I didn’t post anything blog related this whole year… frankly because I was focused on my thesis work and everything involved with graduating. Thankfully it’s done. I finished strong and graduated. Now it’s Michael Porter, M.Arch.<\/p>\n
The purpose of this post is to inform all that would bother to read this about post-thesis. Thesis work is a unique experience in the architectural world. In our studio work the project is dictated to us, where at least the premise is framed and prepackaged for us. Occasionally we get to pick aspects like the program, but then the site is given to us and the documents needed a requirement.<\/p>\n
In thesis work I was able to dictate almost 100% what I wanted to do. I went in last year knowing this was a golden opportunity to do something that could change the world with the education I’ve been blessed with. I didn’t want a thesis that ended at my final presentation, one where I made the book for it and the project was over. That’s how many of the thesis’s are, but not for me.<\/p>\n
So my thesis work has continued… and here’s the updates:<\/p>\n
1) One of my thesis advisors, Professor Nawari an Architectural Engineer, would like to try to publish my work in the ASCE (American Society of Civil Engineers) journal. He’s formatted it and I’m working on updated images and citations, etc… This would be a great exposure into the professional world.<\/p>\n
2) Before I go to #3 I would like your help to decide a name for the system. I will be buying a domain and making a website for the system to allow people to donate to the system becoming a reality. Plus it will provide a front face to the world for…<\/p>\n
3) I will be creating a kickstarter project to help fund building a prototype and parts kit. Kickstarters are limited in time for running (60 days) so I plan on getting much prepared before that goes public. When the time comes I will post it and need as many people to spread it as possible! I’m hoping for August to be ready to go. It’s not going to be super easy as I’m thinking the goal will be in the neighborhood of $20K to get three “kits” made.<\/p>\n
To get there I need creative ideas for backer gifts, a video to intro the project (anyone want to volunteer video), complete plans for a machinist, etc… Please pray and volunteer. I can do a lot but I can’t do it all.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
